Chicago-Bot-Gardens-70Aromatherapy utilizes concentrated volatile plant oils, which have been extracted into essential oils, the pure essence of a plant, have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits when used correctly and safely.

This time of year it is great to use essential oils to keep your body safe from colds and flu. Some essential oils kill bacterial, viral and fungal infections.  They reduce inflammation, regulate hormones, stimulate the immune system and tone and moisturize the skin.

These oils are highly concentrated and should always be used with a carrier oil. The only oil that can be used “neat” is Lavender. Lavender is one essential oil that everyone should have in their medicine cabinet. Lavender has many therapeutic uses. It calms, reduces stress, alleviates fear, soothes frustration and irritability, especially in a time  of crisis. This is used as a great hand sanitizer instead of the alcohol ones that viruses and bacteria build up a resistance to.Can’t sleep …put a few drops on a kleenex and put in next to your pillow or night stand. Got a bug bite, cuts, burns or bruises? It is cell rejuvenating and prevents scarring or stretch marks. Lavender is an all around must have in everyone’s home.

Now, I’ve been called the Eucalyptus Queen…why? Because I used it almost everyday! I love this oil with its camphorous, sweet, woody scent. This is what has kept me healthy with its antiviral and anti-bacterial qualities. This is great for all respiratory problems. This refreshing oil reduces the swelling of mucus membranes, loosens phlegm, and eases breathing. It will kill air born germs and viruses.  To use with children use Eucalyptus Radiata it is gentler.
